Adding radishes, rocket-also called arugula-or a form of Japanese horseradish called wasabi, can have the same effect.

“But overcooking the broccoli you can kill the vital enzyme, myrosinase. Steaming it quickly for just two to four minutes is the best way to preserve its well-known health benefits,” says Elizabeth Jeffery, a professor of nutrition at the University of Illinois. She adds, “Broccoli, prepared correctly, is an extremely potent cancer-fighting agent. Three to five servings a week are enough to have an effect. To get broccoli’s benefits, the enzyme myrosinase has to be present. If it’s not there, sulforaphane, broccoli’s cancer-preventive and anti-inflammatory component, doesn’t form.”

Broccoli sprouts, which are young plants just three to four days old, contain myrosinase in abundance. Researchers found that myrosinase from the young sprouts enhance the levels of sulforaphane formed and absorbed from the broccoli when the two are eaten together. And when you eat broccoli with mustard, radishes, rocket or wasabi, it can boost the benefits even further.

The Endless Benefits of the Coconut

The humble, brown coconut contains a vast array of health benefits and is also a nutritious source of meat, milk, juice and oil. For generations it’s been effectively used to feed, fuel and cure a large percentage of the world’s population, especially in the Asian and Pacific countries where it grows naturally. Pacific Islanders consider coconut oil to be the cure for almost all illnesses.

Scientists have recently discovered the healing properties of coconut oil and how it can be used in modern medicine to treat a variety of conditions. Because it is a natural product, it doesn’t contain the man-made additives that are often found in similar products.

While the coconut possesses many health benefits due to its fiber, vitamins and nutritional content, it’s the oil that makes it a truly remarkable food and an effective natural medicine. Coconut oil was once regarded as high in saturated fat and therefore not good for our diet.

But recent studies have shown that the coconut oil is a different sort of saturated fat that reacts differently in our bodies. It has to do with the type of fat molecule that is present in the oil. Coconut oil is composed predominately of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), also known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). Most of the saturated and unsaturated fats found in our daily diet consist of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA).

MCFA are very different from LCFA. They do not have a negative effect on cholesterol and actually help to protect against heart disease. MCFA help to lower the risk of both atherosclerosis and heart disease. It is primarily due to the MCFA in coconut oil that makes it so special and so beneficial.

Coconut oil is actually good for your heart despite the bad press it has received over the years. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps to prevent various heart related problems such as high ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.

Coconut oil contains high levels of anti-oxidants that help to protect the body from free radicals and prevent degenerative diseases and premature aging.

Source of Energy

Coconut oil is able to boost energy levels and endurance. It is not stored like other fats. It actually breaks down much quicker within the liver and is used like carbohydrate. Athletes and bodybuilders use it as a natural supplement in sports drinks. It also increases your metabolism and is great for anyone wanting to lose weight. In fact, there is a whole industry devoted to losing weight through coconut products and recipes.

Improves Digestion

Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and the absorption of fate soluble vitamins, minerals and amino acids thus preventing various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti-microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi and parasites that cause indigestion. Diabetics use it to reduce their symptoms. Regular use of coconut oil in your cooking can reduce the risk of getting diabetes.

Skin Care

Coconut oil is an excellent massage oil for the skin. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects. Coconut oil is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaky skin. It also delays wrinkles and sagging skin that normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore, coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions and all creams used for skin care.

Beautiful Hair

Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care. It is natural nutrition for your hair. It helps in the healthy growth of hair and adds shine. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff. It is used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners and dandruff relief creams.

Stress Relief

Coconut oil is very soothing and helps remove stress. Applying coconut oil to the scalp followed with a gentle massage helps to remove mental fatigue.

Anti-Itch Cream

Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory and promotes healing.

Healing Balm

Since it’s anti-inflammatory, coconut oil is useful as a salve to speed healing of bruises, strains and sore muscles.

Mosquito Repellent

Coconut oil is used in many mosquito repellents as a natural product, rather than using Deet. Just by eating it or using it as a shampoo or face cream it can ward of pesky bugs.

Head to your Kitchen for the Garlic and Onions

There are real advantages to using natural treatments for hair loss. They include a wide spectrum of options, have minimal side effects and are inexpensive. Treatments such as aromatherapy, herbal remedies, massage or acupuncture can be very effective for those who need to stop hair loss and stimulate hair re-growth.

Along with essential oils, there are a number of herbs, fruit and vegetables that can be used for this problem-onions and garlic are two of these. What makes them work so well? It’s all tied to the main mineral found in both of them called sulphur. Sulphur will do a lot for the growth of your hair and helps to maintain the structure of it as well.

Garlic

Garlic is known as a miraculous remedy for many health problems. Garlic has high levels of allicin, a sulfur compound. Allicin is a very strong antibiotic that helps the body to kill germs and prevent them from reproducing. Garlic’s strong smell comes from allicin, which is released when the garlic clove is crushed, cut or bruised. This versatile bulb is good for your body because it normalizes blood pressure, stimulates metabolic processes and helps to remove toxins. It’s good for your scalp and hair because it stimulates the flow of blood to the scalp, thereby nourishing the hair and encouraging it to grow and strengthen rather than fall out and break off. It adds body and shine and gives the illusion of a fuller head of healthy hair. If you have dry hair or an itchy scalp, use a shampoo containing garlic extract to get immediate relief, to strengthen the hair shaft and prevent breakage.

How do you use garlic for hair loss remedy? An hour before bedtime, slice open a clove of garlic and rub it on the hair loss area. Wait for an hour then massage the scalp with olive oil. Put on a shower cap and go to bed. In the morning, shampoo your hair. Repeat this remedy for a few weeks. Your hair should stop falling out and signs of re-growth should appear.

Some people don’t care for the smell of garlic. Here’s an easy recipe to incorporate garlic and suppress the odor. To one teaspoon of garlic extract add the following ingredients found in your kitchen:

1 teaspoon of aloe vera

1 teaspoon of honey

1 ½ teaspoon of chamomile tea

1 egg yolk

several teaspoons of water

Massage this blend deeply into your scalp and keep it on for 20-25 minutes. After that, wash your hair with your usual shampoo. If used once a week, this mixture will considerable improve the quality of your hair in one to two months.

Onions

Onions are another natural treatment that’s rich with Vitamin C and B6, calcium, magnesium, potassium and germanium as well as important minerals and sulfur. They have exceptional antiseptic, stimulating and antibacterial properties that can be used for therapeutic purposes. In particular, onions have a high sulfur content that plays a key role in restoring hair follicles and stimulating natural hair restoration.

Sulphur is a mineral present in every cell in our body, with its greatest concentration in hair, skin and nails. It has often been called the “beauty mineral” and the “healing mineral” because of its ability to promote circulation and decrease inflammation. These qualities support the theory that adequate amounts of sulphur can jump-start hair growth in people with deficiencies. The high amount of sulphur found in onions make them particularly effective in regenerating hair follicles and stimulating hair re-growth. In addition, naturally concentrated sulphur compounds have been proven to restore hair.

As an effective hair loss treatment, onion can be used in the following mixture: Apply 1 teaspoon of fresh squeezed onion juice mixed with several teaspoons of apple juice directly onto the scalp, massage deep into the scalp and hair roots. Keep on for 25-30 minutes and then wash away with a natural shampoo. Do these treatments every day. This procedure is quite harmless even for sensitive skin and can be used every day in order to stimulate hair growth. Since onion juice restores hair follicles and improves scalp circulation, you will experience dramatic improvement in hair thickness within several months.

What Part Do Stress and Cortisol Play?

When exposed to stress, the body initiates a chain of events (releasing stimulatory hormones) that prepare the body for either a “fight” or “flight” response. These events, which alter metabolism, require significant energy or fuel-the body needs called glucose.

Anything that causes us to feel stress raises cortisol (referred to as the “stress hormone”) levels. If we feel stressed on a regular basis, cortisol levels remain elevated. This affects metabolic processes that serve to increase blood glucose levels. Hormones affected by elevated cortisol levels include:

Thyroid

Progesterone

Estrogen

Testosterone

Because one of the primary roles of cortisol is to encourage the body to refuel itself after responding to a stressor, an elevated cortisol level keeps the appetite ramped up-so stressed people will feel hungry ALL the time.

Emphasize a Healthy, Holistic Lifestyle

When it is evident you need help with blood glucose handling, you will want to address all facets of your lifestyle, including:

Stress Management

There are factors that contribute to how the body responds to a stressor:

Whether there is an outlet for the stress. Go for a run. Talk to a friend.

Whether the stress is predictable. The more accustomed a person is to the stressor, the less pronounced the response to the stress will be.

Whether there is control over the stressor. Learn to accept those things that cannot be changed.

Stress: The Thief of Sleep

Many studies have shown that getting less than eight hours of sleep per night causes metabolic changes. Less sleep means insufficient time for cortisol levels to drop. An increase in cortisol decreases the ability to fall asleep as well as the amount of time the mind spends in the most restful stages of deep sleep.

To foster a good night’s sleep, exercise early in the day, be consistent with lights-out and waking times, and avoid caffeine late in the evening. You may want to add deep-breathing techniques, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation to sleep regimens.

Exercise

Regular participation in “moderate” exercise can reduce body fat, reduce appetite, build muscle and bone, improve mental and emotional function, and stimulate the immune system. Aerobic exercise is recommended because it makes you breathe more deeply and makes the heart work harder. Intense exercise can be detrimental by elevating cortisol levels.

Nutrition

Learning what affects blood sugar handling in your body can make you feel more in control. You probably already know to avoid carbohydrate-laden snacks and sweets, but sometimes product labeling can be deceptive. You may not know what ingredients to watch for, like high-fructose corn syrup in sports and energy drinks. Other things to look for are excitotoxins-substances that are believed to kill or damage nerve cells through excessive stimulation. The biggest offenders are monosodium glutamate (MSG) and aspartame, which can both interfere with normal functioning of the endocrine system.

To level out blood sugar levels, you should eat more whole-grains foods containing fiber (whole-grain bread and fresh fruits and vegetables) and avoid refined carbohydrates like white flour, white rice, white pasta, and white sugar. Whole grains take longer to digest due to their denseness and fiber content and won’t cause blood sugar to spike.

Supplements

In addition to relieving stress, eating right, and exercising, whole food supplements and herbal products can encourage healthy blood sugar levels when combined with a healthy diet.

Cataplex® GTF

Supports healthy carbohydrate digestion

Supports healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels when already within normal ranges

Encourages healthy blood sugar utilization at the cellular level

Diaplex®

Supports healthy sugar handling

Supports healthy pancreas function

Supports healthy bowl and gallbladder function

Gymnema 4g (MediHerb)

Maintains healthy blood sugar levels when combined with a balanced diet

Maintains normal cholesterol levels in a normal range

Evaluation

After you have embraced these lifestyle changes, re-evaluate the blood sugar levels. Continue following these tips/techniques to maintain your health and wellness. Feel free to contact me with any questions at Lynn@LynnMoralesND.com

How Did It Become an Epidemic and What Can We Do About It?

It’s happened. Childhood obesity has officially become an epidemic in America. It’s been reported that one in five children are now classified as obese. That equates to more than a half million four-year-olds and more than nine million children and teens ages 6 to 19. What’s even more disturbing is that this number has tripled since 1980.

The cause of this epidemic is twofold. The widespread availability of nutrient deficient and seductive food choices combined with the habitual lack of physical activity. When children adopt a sedentary lifestyle, they develop old age diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and strokes. It’s already happening as we see overweight teens dying from heart disease. The upsurge of childhood deaths due to obesity has become alarming.

This unbelievable trend is even more tragic because it’s preventable. In 1973, 80% of Americans’ food dollars were spent on home prepared foods, totaling $6 to $7 billion. Today, American’s spend $134 billion on fast food. It’s shocking to realize that this figure outranks what families spend on college tuition, personal computers and cars combined.

The U.S. Food Industry is Making a Killing In More Ways Than One

Next, we have to focus on altering the allowances “gifted” the food industry by both the USDA and the FDA. Both agencies were created to protect the public. However, both have become complicit in allowing this industry to put profit ahead of protection. These Federal agencies have allowed the health of the American consumer, as well as the environment, to become compromised in order to benefit the food industry.

The U.S. food industry is very powerful. They use science and food engineering, backed by excellent target marketing, to entice American families into eating their junk. Their manipulation of fats, sugars and salt create highly addictive, nutrient-poor foods that hook our bodies and minds just like the most addictive drugs. The industry spends over $30 billion a year on huge advertising campaigns that condition us to become garbage-consuming machines. This new “drug” of choice-fast food-is oh so easy, readily accessible, costs little and acts as a quick fix for our crazy, fast paced lives.

Obese Children Grow Up to Become Obese Adults

Should we not stop this epidemic, and soon, it’s predicted that by 2018 more than 21% of our health care costs will be directly related to obesity. This makes for a strong argument to tackle the problem in childhood, when habits are being formed because obese children are likely to remain obese as adults. However, since over 32% of adults are already obese, we need to tackle and educate the parents, in particular, their food shopping habits. The Michelle Obama campaign against childhood obesity is a daunting national project and I applaud her for addressing this on a national level.

What Causes Childhood Obesity?

There are a number of factors that lead to childhood obesity, the first being economics. It’s found more predominantly in the Hispanic, African American, and American Indian cultures. Research shows there is a correlation between prenatal status, which influences fat deposition and appetite regulation, later in life. A fetus that is exposed to high or low levels of nutrition tends toward obesity. Evidence also shows that infants who grow very rapidly in the first one or two years of life, as well as those with the highest Body Mass Index (body fat) are at risk both as children and as adults. Under-nutrition can also predispose an individual to diabetes or hypertension. The brain can actually get “high” on its favorite joy foods. Sugar, in particular, releases opiates.

Obesity related illnesses and diseases have been responsible for a tenfold increase in private health insurance spending since 1987. According to the data analysis from the Framingham Heart Study, 30-year-old females have a 74% chance of becoming overweight, while males have a 92% chance. The risk of becoming obese is 39% for women and 48% for men.

The ways to develop a gut are pretty much the same for young and old alike. Once we acknowledge that predisposing lifestyle factors are choice-based, we can change our choices to sidestep weight gain and obesity. What can you do about it? The answer is a lot.

What You Can Do Starting Today

Eat out less. Consider the concept that home cooked meals are expensive in time only. Feeding your child too much fast food is a sure way to make your little angel look like cupid!

Plan meals ahead. They may take a bit more time to prepare but the benefits outweigh the cost in time. Home cooked meals cost less money, are fresh and nutritious and pull the family together.

Eat breakfast. Make this your largest meal of the day. Try a breakfast with non-gluten bread, coconut oil topped with raw nut butter and room temperature frozen berries.

Keep children on a regular meal schedule, eating at the same time every day.

Never eat when stressed or on the go. This contributes to overeating.

Never skip meals. Many children consume yogurt, a bagel or a juice box for breakfast or skip it all together. This is a huge “no-no.” Remember, like adults, kids need breakfast to be their largest meal of the day!

Don’t use food to appease your child’s behavior. It creates an unhealthy relationship with food. Children will see food as a reward.

Increase family exercise. Play with your children and you both benefit. Limit sedentary activities to one hour per day. That means turn off the TV and computer and move your bodies.

Put your child to bed early – lights out for kids by 8:00 to 8:30 each night. Make sure they get “enough” sleep-kids need 9 to 10 hours per night to function well the next day.

Give your child healthy snacks containing good fats such as goat and sheep cheeses, guacamole and raw seeds or nuts. Try fresh fruit with raw nut butter on top. The important thing to know about these oils and healthy fat foods is that the conversion to sugar is almost nil. Hence, your child will regulate insulin and glucose that in turn helps to burn excess body fat while building muscle.

Eliminate high calorie drinks – packaged juices and sodas (including diet drinks) rob vitamins and minerals from the body, lowering immunity while packing on the pudge.

Don’t buy or allow your kids to eat white anything! White products are doughy, processed, high on the glycemic index and devoid of valuable nutrients. They’re also high in gluten. These dough balls inflame the gut and increase allergies, cause malabsorption and water weight gain.

Increase healthy “thinning” oils in your child’s diet. Ideal is organic flax seed oil taken at least three times a day at breakfast, lunch and dinner. For dosages based on weight, refer to Dr. Galland’s must-have book Super Immunity for Kids. Don’t forget children require saturated and medium chained essential fatty acids daily. Organic coconut oil is yummy on toast and muffins.

Control and regulate glucose and insulin with ample fiber-30 grams daily for adults and 10 to 15 grams a day for kids. You get fiber from veggies, fruits and wholesome complex carbohydrates such as legumes and brown rice.

Expand your knowledge. I would recommend watching an excellent video for parents entitled Food, Inc. by documentary filmmaker Robert Kenar. It’s both illuminating and heart breaking. It shines a bright light on the underside of America’s food industry and the correlation to legitimate concerns regarding our health as a nation. Another terrific five part video series by Peter Jennings is How the Food Industry Is Deceiving You. It exposes how many billions of dollars the food industry spends annually to sabotage the health of consumers.

Get involved in your community. Banded together, parents should demand the public schools reinstate physical education programs in our elementary, middle and high schools. As of now only 8% of elementary and 6% of middle and high school’s require daily physical education classes. We exercise our dogs an hour a day, why not our children?

Demand better food in the schools. Noted international chef Jamie Oliver has begun this fight with his popular television series called Food Revolution USA. He says, “It’s all about making radical changes to the school meals system and challenging the junk food culture by showing schools they can serve fresh nutritious meals that kids enjoy eating.” You can find out more at his website http://www.jamieoliver.com/campaigns/jamiesfood-revolution.

Insist on the removal of vending machines in the schools and an overhaul of the school lunch programs. If they would implement real cooking instead of serving foods that are empty calorie foods such as white bread, pizza and fried foods our children would have health choices. Plus we would stop supporting the industrialized food industry.

As parents, we don’t have to accept what’s being handed to us. The time to stop this epidemic and protect the health of our children is now. We have the power to make changes. The payoffs will result in smarter, healthier and happier children who have a future. Remember, there is no price tag you can place on great health-just ask someone who has lost it.

Compare the shape of the average American to the average Asian and you will be reminded that America, with all of its diet fads, is the most obese nation in the world. Chinese culture, on the other hand, has adhered to a diet plan of balance and moderation that we can all practice to live healthier. The various cuisines of Asian countries are very different but they all adhere to the same principles-a diet of simple whole grains, slightly-cooked vegetables and a little bit of everything else. Too much or too little of any one thing is not good.

All foods have upsides and downsides. A good diet should be like a good stock portfolio-diversified. Having the same thing every day overloads you in one sector. That makes you more prone to the dangers of that sector and missing out on all the other good things happening in the market. So like a good portfolio, you should hedge your bets. Eating smaller amounts of more foods ensures no single one has too great an influence.

White rice is better than brown. Brown rice has a thick hull around it. This is similar to eating a walnut with its shell on. The nutrients in the hull have a poor bio-availability. Our bodies have to break down the shell, which robs energy and slows our metabolisms. But a variety of grains is better than any one. Simple grains should be taken more than breads and pastas.

Cooked vegetables are better than raw. It is true that cooking slightly will destroy a little of the nutrients (about 10%), but that remaining 90% is then unlocked and available. Whatever you put in your stomach that is cold and raw, you have to heat and cook. This takes time, energy and slows your metabolism. We get all of our energy from our food. We want to get the energy and life out of it and excrete that which we don’t need. Cooking outside the body lightens the load and then we simply act as a filter: sending the good stuff to the tissues, the bad to the tissue paper. We should eat a wide variety of vegetables, mostly locally grown, fresh and organic.

Calories don’t matter. The average person in China consumes between 25-40% more calories than the average American, but they have much less obesity. This is because of the kinds of calories they consume and how they are prepared. Calories from natural sources give you a more steady release of energy, satisfy your hunger and facilitate appropriate elimination of waste. Cookies, snack foods, artificial sweeteners, sodas, etc, spike our blood sugars, make us hungrier and slow our digestion. Don’t go hungry, just keep yourself full of good, natural food.

Eat a little red meat. Eating too much red meat is associated with myriad health problems. Vegetarians almost have it right, but giving up meat completely will almost always lead to a long-term deficiency. Chinese medicine specifically recommends we get two ounces, twice a week of mammal meat. One famous Chinese doctor wrote that “Vegetarianism is best suited to monks, living in the shelter of a temple, spending their days in seated meditation.” Those of us with a more active lifestyle need a little more of an active food source. Fish and fowl are good too, but we need a little mammal in the rotation. White meat is not better than dark-chicken is not better than beef. We should have a little of most things.

Minimize Dairy. Dairy is designed by nature for infants to turn into substance in the body. Humans are the only animals that have dairy after infancy. Dairy does not have calcium, but it is overwhelmed by the amino acid casein that actually robs the bones of calcium. Green leafy vegetables are a much better source of calcium for our bodies, with fewer ill effects.

Chinese medicine teaches that in adults, dairy turns into a substance called phlegm. Phlegm can manifest in many different ways: fat, mucus, sinus infections, mental fog, respiratory problems, skin conditions and even fibroids and tumors. A little dairy won’t kill you, but a lot of it is not good. Your primary beverage should be water (room or body temperature) and your number two beverage should be green tea. Everything else, including coffee, should be occasional.

Try to put these principles to use in your diet and your family’s diet to see the benefits. Trust what has worked for millennia. Keep it simple, balanced and moderate.

Eczema and Your Gut

If you are plagued with eczema, you know just how frustrating and debilitating this condition can be. You try everything-all the creams, lotions, and potions – to no avail. You finally turn to steroids, which immediately improve your condition, but slowly destroy your body and health in the process. You are disappointed to discover that almost to the day that you stop steroid therapy, your eczema comes back. But even worse, chronic steroid use causes dysbiosis (abnormal gut flora), which is the prime cause of eczema!

This situation is true even for infants and children. Infants inherit their gut flora from their mothers. Since millions of mothers suffer from dysbiosis, millions of infants suffer from eczema right from the start. For infants, kids, and adults the gut flora-that thick, beneficial-bacteria layer that covers your intestinal lining-is the very cradle of your immune system.

When this flora and the intestinal lining become damaged from prescription drugs, antibiotics, sugary and processed foods, and chemicals, dysbiosis (the overgrowth of harmful bacteria) is the result. Chronic indigestion, diarrhea, cramps, constipation, colitis, Crohn’s disease and more are the direct result of dysbiosis. But more insidious is that the immune system becomes damaged, and you end up becoming immune compromised.

In simple terms, your immune system is divided into two divisions known as T-cell type 1 and T-cell type 2. T-cell type 1 serves as a barrier to infection and invasion anywhere the body comes in contact with the outside world-for example, through the skin and mucous membranes. This system uses biochemicals such as interleukin-2, immunoglobulin A, gamma interferon, and more to keep invaders out of your body.

When you develop dysbiosis (abnormal gut flora), this system is weakened, letting foreign microbes and toxins into your body. Your body responds by over stimulating the T-cell type 2 system. This system kicks into high gear using its own set of biochemicals such as interleukins, alpha interferon, and immunoglobulin E (IgE). IgE is the master of allergic reactions.

Once this scenario takes place-when T-cell 1 is underactive, allowing foreign invaders into your body, and T-cell 2 kicks into high gear, the result is predictable. You end up with chronic viral infections, allergies (often severe and to everything), chronic fatigue syndrome, candidiasis, asthma, and eczema. Other dysbiosis syndromes include, but are not limited to, arthritis; chronic inflammation and pain; menstrual problems; mental and emotional problems including, but not limited to, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, autism, schizophrenia syndrome, and depression; and much more.

So if you suffer from chronic eczema, you need to fix your gut. It is difficult to overestimate just how critical the state of your gut flora is when it comes to all these dysbiosis syndromes, including eczema. Most of the syndromes spring from severe nutritional deficiencies that come automatically when your gut is host to happily growing abnormal bacteria. When this is the case, your gut simply cannot absorb the nutrients your immune system and your body need to stay healthy and strong-no matter how good your diet is, or how many “vitamins” you take.

Cure Dysbiosis to Cure Eczema

You have to normalize your gut and give it what it needs to bring back a healthy and normal flora. Only then will you be able to finally balance your immune system, turn up your T-cell 1 system, and turn down your T-cell 2 system. Normalizing your gut will start to turn off the over stimulated and allergic reactions in your skin and body. And once your gut is on the way towards normalization, you will slowly recover from the major, powerful, and multiple nutritional deficiencies that cause endless suffering for all persons with dysbiosis. With a normalizing gut, and the proper nutrition, you will once again be able to absorb the nutrients needed to end eczema, allergies, and all the other nutritional deficiency syndromes from which most Americans suffer.

So start today. For a detailed protocol to end dysbiosis, see my article, “Digestion, the Gut, and Disease,” in this issue of Health Alert. At the very least, begin to help yourself by changing your diet immediately. Eat only real, whole foods, no processed foods, and give your gut a rest by eliminating all gluten (anything made from wheat, rye, barley, and oats) for 6 months. Start taking a pro-and prebiotic to feed your gut the healthy, beneficial bacteria that it needs. We have identified the very best product as ProSynbiotic from Standard Process. It contains not only the beneficial bacteria (probiotic) you need, but the prebiotic (food for the beneficial bacteria) as well-all in one capsule. Take one capsule 3x daily for a year or more.

If you suffer from eczema, once you start to normalize your gut, be sure to take Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil (CLO) to get the skin nutrition you need. Take 3 capsules daily for a year or more. Better yet, take this supplement for life as it contains all the vitamin D fractions in their natural form, with real vitamin A and omega-3 fats. This is skin, heart, and hormone rocket fuel.

Potions, lotions, creams, salves, steroids, ultra violet, antibiotics, and more for eczema? The underlying cause is in your gut-creating the immune system imbalance and the nutritional deficiencies that ensure eczema for life. If you are suffering, then absolutely, for sure, without a doubt, follow the protocol in “Digestion, the Gut, and Disease.” It will simply be the start of a new life for you.

Good nutrition begins at home.

If you teach your kids to eat healthy food now, the rewards will go with them for a lifetime. Children and teenagers are exposed to lots of junk food so it is especially important to offer good nutrition at home, and there is no easier time to start eating healthy than when fresh vegetables and fruits are so abundant.

Mother Nature gives us lots of wonderful fresh produce. Watermelons, summer squash, corn, tomatoes and peppers are abundant. Eating healthy, organic, raw and living foods will help you and your kids in so many ways. You’ll feel lighter and cooler when you take off extra weight. Raw and living foods will help you shed weight with ease. Excess weight can lead to many health problems including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. More children are obese than ever before and this has led to more diseases in young people. Poor nutrition is the leading cause of obesity.

Raw vegetables like squash and dark leafy greens, combined with a freshly made raw salad dressing, are tasty and delicious. Make a raw dip and your kids will love eating their vegetables. Kids love smoothies and preparing them is so quick and easy.

Raw fruits and vegetables and living sprouted foods are nutritious and packed full of protein, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Sprouted mung beans and lentils have 37% protein while meats have only 22%. Wheatgrass juice has 47% protein. Chicken has only 21%. Eating animal food causes acidity, mucous, constipation, worms and parasites. Encourage your kids to eat more fresh raw fruits and vegetables and living sprouts.

Put some fruits and vegetables in a blender and make a delicious, nutritious smoothie. In a couple of minutes you can have a delicious, satisfying meal you can drink on the go. If you don’t want to take the time to prepare a delicious dish you can easily grab an apple, celery stick or carrot and munch away. When you go out to eat, you will find fresh fruit and salads on most menus. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, just ask your server if the chef can create a special salad of the freshest vegetables just for you. Most restaurants are very willing to accommodate their customers.

When you are preparing your meals at home, you can get very creative with lots of different types of salads and dressings, raw veggie burgers, raw soups and yummy raw desserts. This delicious all green salad is easy to prepare and full of protein, vitamins and minerals. The dressing is light and delicious, too, so you’ll keep cool. Of course you always want to select organic produce for the highest quality food without chemicals and pesticides. Organic is well worth it and very cool!

Don’t eat too fast. Take your time and chew really well. Taste each and everyone of the fresh flavors. Savor every bite and think of how cool you are to be eating so well and taking such a good care of your health.

The best treatment for hemorrhoids and varicose veins (hemorrhoids are varicose veins) comes from the root of the stone plant, commonly known as the collinsonia plant. This treatment is even more effective than horse chestnut preparations.

This centuries-old remedy was used by Native Americans and consists of the ground-up root of the stone or collinsonia plant. The active ingredient in this herbal root is magnesium phosphate, which is a vascular astringent. That means that it helps maintain the proper tone in the muscles of blood vessels. Lack of tone allows vessels and veins to become enlarged and distended.

This stone-hard root is ground into a fine powder and encapsulated, using no heat or chemicals. It can routinely provide dramatic relief for people with vein problems, varicose veins, hemorrhoids. You just take Collinsonia Root (3 capsules 2x or 3x daily) with a large glass of water. If you have hemorrhoids, use arrowroot for symptom relief while you are using the collinsonia capsules. Just dab some powder on the area a few times daily.

Most people with varicose veins and/or hemorrhoids also have a congested liver. If your vein problems are severe, consider adding A-F Betafood (3 tablets 2x daily) and Cyruta-Plus (2 tablets 2x daily) to help clear up liver congestion as well as strengthen your blood vessels. If you have varicose veins and/or hemorrhoids with a congested liver and gallbladder problems, you certainly need A-F Betafood, and you should consider a liver/gallbladder flush.

You can find this protocol in my Encyclopedia of Pragmatic Healing, free with your new Health Alert subscription.

Today medical treatments for varicose veins and hemorrhoids are far superior to earlier medical treatments. But any surgical treatment carries some degree of risk. It is always best to use the herbal protocol for 4 to 6 months before undergoing surgery. And it only makes sense to treat your liver, which is the underlying cause of serious cases of varicose veins and/or hemorrhoids. This should be done whether you use collinsonia, arrowroot, or surgery.
